Thank you for your interest in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. I am very proud of our exceptional faculty and resident staff and their accomplishments in our mission areas of patient care, research, education and community outreach. Our research programs in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology, Gynecologic Oncology and Urogynecology and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery are robust and continue to gain the department recognition at the national and international level with total grant funding of over 3 million dollars.

Our educational programs continue to thrive with our fully accredited Residency Program, an ABOG Accredited Fellowship Program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and an American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) accredited Fellowship Program in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. Our excellence in education is also reflected in the large number of students (10 from the Class of 2012, 10 from the Class of 2013, and 14 applying from the Class of 2014) who choose OB/GYN as a career.

With respect to our clinical activities the Gynecologic Oncology Division is a member of The Gynecology Oncology Group (GOG), and our Reproductive Endocrinology Division, a member of the NIH Reproductive Medicine Network, continues to have superior results from their In-Vitro Fertilization Program (based on data from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies) which places them among the top programs in the region and in the country and has an internationally recognized program for the management of patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Maternal-Fetal Medicine continues to serve as a resource for high risk mothers from all of central Pennsylvania, providing MFM consultative and ultrasound services at 4 clinical sites in the surrounding areas, including Camp Hill, Harrisburg and Reading in addition to Hershey and including a full range of prenatal diagnostic options including both first trimester and mid-trimester screening. That Division is also fully accredited in Obstetrics and Gynecology Ultrasound by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).

All of these activities have resulted in another record year for outpatient visits, surgical procedures and deliveries. Our surgical volumes have also allowed for the recent recognition of our Division of Urogynecology and Minimally Invasive Surgery as a Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (COEMIGS) and our Department does more Robotic surgery than any other OB/GYN Department in the region, and is one of the busiest Robotic surgery units in the nation.

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge all of the support that we receive from our Hospital Administration, our College of Medicine, and our Nurses. Without this support it would not be possible to achieve the goals outlined above. Likewise, all of the support staff that contributes to the day to day operations of the Department – administrative assistants, billing and coding personnel, operations directors and numerous others makes it possible for us to achieve this kind of success.
